Building a website may be on the backburner for a number of reasons…cost, complexity and lack of technical skills.  That’s a defeatist attitude, especially when there are multiple ways you can get a great looking website, with your information and photos, live up on the internet in less than an hour.

Getting your site up right now is valuable…even if it’s just a 1 or two page template.  You’ll want to establish and online presence as quickly as possible.

Fortunately, it’s never been easier to make websites, whether you have technical skills or not.

Here’s what you do to get a starter website in minutes:

  • Register Your Domain – A domain name is the URL for your website, ie. www.smallbusinessy.com  The domain name must be chosen to include some of the keywords, or terms your market uses to look for your products and services.  Your business name is fine, but remember search engines give credit to keywords in the domain name, so choose wisely.  One of client’s business name is Queen City Tree Services.  No one in Charlotte uses that term when they are searching for tree services on Google.  We opted to go for Charlotte Tree Services, as there are 700 searches a month for that term.  Domain registration for available domains is $13 or less.  You can often get free registration with a commitment to 1yr hosting.
  • Host Your domain – Once you purchase a domain, it can be hosted anywhere.  Your host is the server where your website data and files are stored and served.  Hosting companies provide security and software like a Cpanel to make managing your site easy.   One-click installs for WordPress and other websites are a feature your host must have.   The cost for this should be less than $20/month.
  • Build the website – Making a basic website is really easy.  I recommend you get one up yourself now, then you can pay a professional to refine later.   Drag and drop editors are available on many of the sites listed below.  There are a ton of premade templates you can simply modify with your photos and contact information.  Many templates or themes are updated to work with the modern web, and include social media integration, fresh looks, sliders and more.

The 30 minute website is true…all within these amazing platforms you can register you domain, host your site and if you know how to use a mouse, you can build websites from the list below:
